Gayatri Singh

Gayatri Singh was born into the refined cultural milieu of Lucknow, a city that has nurtured some of India's greatest Kathak dancers. Her mother, a disciple of the legendary Birju Maharaj's school, began teaching Gayatri the Lucknow gharana's distinctive style of Kathak at age six. The art form's emphasis on expressiveness, storytelling through gesture, and rhythmic precision became second nature to Gayatri, and by her late teens she was performing at the prestigious Dover Lane Music Conference in Kolkata and the Khajuraho Dance Festival. After completing her M.A. in Performing Arts from Banaras Hindu University, Gayatri discovered a second passion: voice acting. Her naturally resonant voice and her Kathak-trained ability to convey emotion through subtle inflection made her a natural for the medium. She trained at the Voice and Speech Training Institute in Mumbai and quickly found work in animated features, audiobook narration, and commercial voice-overs. Gayatri's on-screen debut came in Lucknowi Ishq (2023), a Hindi romantic drama directed by Vishal Bhardwaj's associate Meghna Mishra, where she played a Kathak teacher caught between tradition and modernity. The film's dance sequences, choreographed by Gayatri herself, were praised for their authenticity and emotional depth. She went on to voice the lead character in the animated feature Rani Ki Kahani and appeared in the Uttar Pradesh-set social drama Ganga Kinare.
