Harish Mohan

Harish Mohan was raised in the palace city of Mysore, where the legacy of the Wodeyar dynasty's patronage of martial arts still echoes in the city's kalari training centres. His grandfather, a Kalaripayattu practitioner who had trained soldiers for the erstwhile Mysore royal family, began teaching Harish the ancient art when the boy was barely five. The rigorous training, which combined combat techniques with medicinal knowledge and spiritual discipline, shaped Harish's body and mind in ways that would prove invaluable for his later career in cinema. Alongside Kalaripayattu, Harish trained in gymnastics at the Mysore Gymnastics Academy, becoming a state-level competitor in floor exercises and vault. The combination of Kalaripayattu's flowing combat movements and gymnastics' precision acrobatics gave him an extraordinary physical vocabulary. After completing his B.P.Ed. from the University of Mysore, Harish moved to Bangalore to pursue a career in film. His debut in the Kannada action film Veera Madakari (2023), directed by S.S. Rajamouli's associate Ravi Basrur, cast him as a medieval Mysore warrior. The film's action sequences, designed around authentic Kalaripayattu techniques rather than the usual wire-heavy Bollywood style, received international attention and were praised for their raw authenticity. Harish followed this with the Kannada-Tamil bilingual Kalari Veeran, where he played a modern-day Kalaripayattu instructor who uses the art to help troubled youth.
