Nikhil Menon

Nikhil Menon was the kind of child who was happiest when he was moving. Growing up in the coastal city of Calicut, he divided his time between the Arabian Sea, where he swam competitively from age six, and the local Kalaripayattu kalari, where he trained in Kerala's indigenous martial art. By his mid-teens, Nikhil had represented Kerala at the national swimming championships and earned recognition as one of the state's most promising young Kalaripayattu practitioners. After completing his B.Sc. in Sports Science from the University of Calicut, Nikhil's dual expertise in swimming and martial arts led him naturally toward a career in action cinema. He trained as a stunt performer at the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad before returning to Kerala, where the growing Malayalam film industry's demand for authentic action performers created immediate opportunities. His ability to perform complex stunts in water, a rare skill in Indian cinema, became his unique selling point. His acting debut in Kadal Thiramai (2023), a Malayalam maritime thriller directed by Aashiq Abu, cast him as a coast guard officer battling smugglers on the high seas. The film's water-based action sequences, which Nikhil performed without a double, set a new benchmark for aquatic action in Indian cinema. He followed this with the Malayalam-Tamil bilingual Vellam, where he played a swimming coach who overcomes personal tragedy, and the action thriller Kalari Kadal that combined his martial arts and swimming skills in innovative ways.
