Biography
Rohan Das grew up in Siliguri, the gateway to Northeast India, where the foothills of the Himalayas meet the plains of Bengal. His father, a physical education teacher at the local government school, enrolled young Rohan in gymnastics at the Siliguri Sports Academy when the boy was just five. What began as after-school activity quickly became a passion and then an obsession. By his mid-teens, Rohan was representing West Bengal at national gymnastics championships, winning medals in floor exercises and vault, and training six hours a day.
A knee injury during a national competition derailed his gymnastics career at nineteen, but Rohan refused to let his physical talents go to waste. He pivoted to acrobatics, training with a visiting Chinese acrobatic troupe that performed at the Siliguri Carnival, and quickly discovered that his gymnastics foundation made him a natural. After recovering from his injury, Rohan moved to Mumbai and enrolled in the National Centre for Performing Arts' physical theatre program, where he combined acrobatics with dramatic movement.
His film debut in Udaan (2023), a Bengali action-adventure about a young man who joins a travelling circus, directed by Kaushik Ganguly, was a perfect showcase for his extraordinary physical abilities. Rohan performed all his own acrobatic sequences without wires or CGI, and the film's climactic trapeze scene, performed forty feet above the ground, left audiences gasping. He followed this with the Hindi action film Hawa Mein, where he played a parkour-style thief navigating the rooftops of Kolkata, and the Bengali drama Desh Bandhu, where he surprised critics with the emotional depth of his performance.
