Biography
Trisha Choudhury grew up on the banks of the Brahmaputra in Guwahati, where the rhythms of Bihu dances and the melodies of Borgeet devotional songs formed the soundtrack of her childhood. Her grandmother, a renowned Sattriya dancer from Majuli Island, was her first guru, introducing her to the spiritual and artistic dimensions of Assamese dance traditions. By her mid-teens, Trisha was performing at Rongali Bihu celebrations across Assam and had developed a distinctive style that blended traditional Bihu energy with contemporary movement vocabulary. Trisha earned her degree in Music from Cotton University in Guwahati, where she trained her alto voice under Dr. Bhupen Hazarika's student Ranjit Gogoi. Her ability to sing and dance simultaneously set her apart from her peers and caught the attention of Assamese filmmaker Jahnu Barua's casting team. After graduation, she moved to Mumbai to broaden her horizons, training in screen acting at the Anupam Kher Actor Prepares studio. Her film debut in Xondhiya Xuruj (2023), an Assamese musical drama directed by Rima Das, showcased her triple-threat abilities as actress, dancer, and singer. The film, which followed a young woman's journey from rural Assam to the stages of Mumbai, was selected for the Toronto International Film Festival and brought unprecedented international attention to Assamese cinema. She subsequently appeared in the Hindi indie film Safar, playing a Northeast Indian migrant navigating life in Delhi.
