You have talent. You just don't have anyone's number.

You moved to Mumbai three months ago. Or maybe Hyderabad, or Pune. You trained, whether at a film school, through years of college theater, or on your own watching every film you could find. You know you can act. That part isn't the problem.

The problem is that casting in India runs on phone contacts. An AD knows a casting director who knows an actor who recommends a friend. That's how 90% of newcomer auditions happen. If you're not in someone's phone, you don't exist. You can be the most talented person in your PG accommodation and it won't matter because nobody with a casting call has ever heard of you.

So you scroll Instagram. You find casting call posts, but they were posted yesterday and the audition was this morning. Or worse, you find ones that ask you to pay ₹5,000 for a “registration fee” or ₹10,000 for a “portfolio shoot.” You can't tell which ones are real. You send your photos to accounts that never reply. You show up to addresses that turn out to be empty offices. A friend of yours lost ₹25,000 to a fake production house that promised a web series role.
